Bachpan Ke Din - Hide & Seek

Unknown     04:35     0
Hide and Seek or we can say Chupan-Chupai or Chupa-Chuppi. The Hide and seek is a timeless game that has been played by small children of different ages and all over the world. Hide-and-seek or hide-and-go-seek is a popular children's game in which any number of players put themselves in the environment, to be found by one or more seekers. It is not only the children who enjoy it, the parents too play a facial form of hide and seek with their children from the earliest age, as it teaches children about attachment and detachment in a safe and caring environment. However like Hide and Seek, all the outdoor games provide wonderful interaction amongst children to be friendly with others, easy to play and never gets boring. The game is played by one player chosen as 'Denner' have to close their eyes and counting to a predetermined number (such as 1 to 10) while the other players hide themselves. Then the denner calls, "Ready or not, here I come!' and then to locate all concealed players. The game can end in two ways. In the first variation of the game, the denner locates all players successfully as the players and the player found first is chosen to be denner in the next
game. Second variation has the seeker counting at "home base"; the hiders can either remain hidden or they can come out of hiding to race to home base; if anyone of them touch the denner then all the players are safe and the denner has to again dine one more time. Number of game continues like
this on and on.

This game is an example of an oral tradition, as it is commonly passed by children. Grew up playing this street games, had made our childhood, our 'Bachpan Ke Din' wonderful and awesome!!!

Childhood Poshampa game is a big passtime played by kids. Two kids make a gate like structure, stand with their hands locked together above their heads and sing a song. The other kids pass from under that bridge in a line and the one who gets caught while the hands come down like a cage at the end of the song is out.
The song is like-
Poshampa Bhai Poshampa
Laal Quile Mein Kya Hua
Sau Rupaye Ki Ghadi Churayi
Ab Toh Jel Mein Jana Padega
Jail Ki Roti Khani Padegi
Jail Ka Pani Peena Padega
Ab Toh Jail Mein Jana Hi Padegaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa....(hands come down with this one)
And that's how one unfortunate innocent was put behind bars by the kids. As soon as the song is finished, the kid inside the gate is taken aside and asked questions. Depending on the answers it is decided in which team he or she will go. That person go to the back side of one of 2 kids holding them  and then again the game continues. The game ends in a manner when one of the 2 kids have the highest number of person in their back, wins the game.

Gilli Danda is an traditional sports game played in the small towns and rural areas in the countries like India, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nepal And also in Turkey, Italy and Cambodia. We mastered this game before we learnt how to walk! Gilli Danda is in every Indian's blood! There is no maximum number of players or teams. It can be played where each individual plays for themselves, or between two teams. It is an ancient sport of India, possibly with origins over 2500 years ago. It is believed to be the origin of Western games such as cricket, baseball etc.

The Gilli Danda game is played with two sticks: a a long wooden stick called a Danda, which is used to hit a small oval-shaped piece of wood, known as Gilli. The player standing in a small circle, puts the gilli in an inclined manner like a see-saw with one end of the gilli touching the ground while the other end is in air. Then the player uses the danda to hit the gilli at the upper end, which flips it into the air. Then the player strikes the gilli, hitting it as far as possible. The player is required to run and touch a pre-agreed point outside the circle before the gilli is retrieved by opponent. This aspect of the game is similar to runs in cricket or baseball.

This game of cricket is played in small lanes or street sides known as 'gully' in Hindi (the language used in India ), and thus named as 'gully cricket' or we called it simply 'Bat Ball'. The interesting thing about this game is anyone can play this, there's no age limit of it. The pitch is made with the help of bricks one upon the other (8-10 bricks is appropriate). However, there are some unofficial rules to play which are used most of the time are as follows:

1. The team who win the match choose what they want to do in the next match, either bowling or batting.
2. The player who opened up in batting didn't bowl the first over.
3. The First Ball rule: a player cannot be given out on the first ball he faces. This rule is especially applied to those with little cricketing skill.
4. One Tip Out - If the batsman has hit the ball into the ground, but it has only bounced once, they can still be given out caught, but only if the fielder catches the ball with one hand
5. If the player hit it over the fence, then he is out and he have to get the ball.
